As a child I feared Heaven; it was a concept too metaphysical for my mind to comprehend. Like many other things outside my realm of understanding, thoughts of an afterlife were filed away as something to avoid thinking about altogether. This fear never really subsided, I just avoided letting my mind wander towards the subject. What scared me in my youth has inspired me as a young adult. I have become obsessed with creating imagery to depict the landscape I could not imagine, developing an interest towards the vocabulary being used to describe such a place: “holy habitation.” This illustrative language pulled me in, pushing me to make photographs that reflected their beauty. “The Seventh Day” attempts to see beyond our existence, building something tangible out of all the verses I have been taught to recite since youth. Made using a 35mm point and shoot, not unlike my first camera, I have stepped back in time, forcing myself to view this world from a more innocent, childlike, perspective.
